The end of my second semester in college is in sight for me. This only means that finals are around the corner for many college students. Many students will soon be making more constant visits to the library and spending longer times than usual glued to their textbooks. Please allow me to share a few points that have been helpful for me during this overwhelming time of the year.

This semester I tried taking a different approach when it came to understanding class material. Instead of waiting towards the end to review the material I did not understand on the first time around, I found it helpful to use class to my advantage. What I mean by this is that before I would sit for one of my lectures I would briefly gloss over the material that would be cover for that day. Then after lecture i would really look further in detail the specific points that I was not able to create a connection with. I’m a visual learner so this also meant that  had to for many of my classes create outlines to organize the topic that were discussed in class. It is better to find out now then later the type of learner you are. This will come in handy when you have multiple classes you need to study for. I only recently discovered how I learn best. Another method that never fails for some people is to have study groups. At big schools like U of H an easy way to keep communication with a study group is through a messaging application called group me. This has come in handy for me when working with others in a group project where the input of all members is necessary. Finally, an option that you should always consider is your actual professor. Once you have put in effort in attempting to understand a topic and you still do not understand it, go visit your professor during their office hours! Chances are that after you visit your professor you will feel more relieved. And as always do procrastinate on any assignments because they will sneak up on you unexpectedly. I would say “Wish me luck for these for these next couple of weeks” but I am confident that I will do fine.
